Weekly Observer

Wednesday 24 July 2013

Ballingarry will see the return of B-Fest this August Bank Holiday weekend with lots of entertianment for all the family. B-Fest is a non-profit event in aid of two meaningful charities TLC4CF and Cry Ireland. The event in itself came to fruition in 2012 proving a huge success to all concerned, so much so that we are hosting the 2013 schedule on the August Bank Holiday weekend in aid of two deserving causes.

TLC4CF was founded by friends and families of people of people suffering with Cystic Fibrosis in Tipperary, Limerick and Clare. They are a regional branch of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland, dedicated to improving services for people with cystic fibrosis living in the mid west. CRY- Cardiac Risk in the Young – So Young – So Fit – So Active – So Sudden. CRY in Ireland was founded in March 2002 by parents who had experienced the effects of sudden and unexplained death within their families. CRY is a self supporting registered charity, CRY receives no Government funding of any kind and is therefore dependent on help to; raise awareness of cardiac risk in the young through media campaigns and public information meetings, support a national screening centre where famlies and individuals at risk can be evaluated and provide counselling and support to families affected.

Calling all former students of the Convent of Mercy, Ballingarry! On Saturday we will be holding a fun run/walk with a difference. We are inviting people to run/walk from Knockfierna to the former convent in Ballingarry. The Mustard Seed Registration for the event will take place on Thursday July 25th in the hall, Ballingarry between 8pm and 10pm. €20 to register for the walk and for the nun’s outfit sizes available are S, M and L. Sponsorship cards wil also be available for anyone who wishes to gather sponsorship for TLC4CF and CRY Ireland. If you come with your own outfit registration is €10. Participants will be transported from the hall in Ballingarry to Knockfierna on the day and the run/walk will begin from there. We will finish at the Mustard Seed where Dan Mullane and his staff will provide refresments for the participants.

We are lucky to have secured the support of the  U2 tribute bankd: Zoo 2 for a secnd year running. Last year they performed on the rooftop of Condron’s Bar, this year they will perform on the Big Rig and are being supported by the trad rock band Brisla. They will take to the stage at 8pm Suunday and also see the return of the Junior Tractor Race and a new Go Kart Race for the younger populations. We are also holding a wife carrying competition.

There will be lots of fun activities for the family including face painting, an ice cream van and BBQ. The day will start at 3pm. Bank Holiday Monday August 5th will provide for something exceptionally different by different we mean extraordinary, Live Pig Racing. It’s whereby Teddy Bears” are attached to the pig’s backs and released from their respective traps. This is truly an experience not to be missed. Pigs can be purchased for €20, give your pig a name and a jockey and be in with a chance to win €70 for first place and €20 for second.

A BBQ will also be  held during this event. Entry to the bands, family entertainment and the pig racing on Bank Holdiay Monday will be by wristband only.

Wristbands are on sale in local shops for €5. A monster draw with prizes galore on Monday evening, lines for the draw will be on sale over the weekend. An auction will take place directly after the monster draw for the Limerick Captain Don O’Grady’s signed framed jersey. If you are intrested in bidding for this and wish to make a bid prior to the auction you can PM (private message) on BFEST @ Condron’s Bar Facebook page with your offer or phone 086 8163358.

Your support will be very much appreciated for these two worthy charities.
