The Streets of Galway 8k takes place on Saturday and will help raise funds for a local cause.
The Treacy and Power families from the Crescent and Ravens Terrace are using this race to raise funds and awareness for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
A team from Galway Fire Service will take part in the race along with nearly 200 family and friends of Tom, Regina, Colm and Paul Power.
By joining the CRY Streets of Galway Team a real difference can be made and young lives can be saved. Over 5,000 people suffer sudden cardiac death in Ireland each year, of which 60 to 80 are under the age of 35 years. Cardiac disease in young people is mostly due to inherited heart disease or birth defects (congenital disease).
An estimate of over 10,000 people in Ireland carry genes for inherited heart disease, more often than not unknowingly. The centre for cardiovascular risk in younger persons provides evaluation and treatment for at risk individuals and families at the centre operating in Tallaght, Dublin. It depends primarily on financial donations as it receives no Government funding.
To get involved and receive sponsorship card and t-shirt for the race contact Tom on 087-6501771 or Regina Power on 087 0520054. More information on www.cry.ie.
