Cycleplus Greystones are running their first charity cycle this May from Mizen Head in County Cork to Malin Head in County Donegal. The aim is to raise enough funding to set up a Public Access Defibrillator Programme for Greystones and the surrounding areas.
In Ireland there are over 5,000 sudden cardiac arrests per year, on average that’s 14 per day. Before the availability of defibrillators and knowledge of CPR the survival rate was less than 1%, today the survival is now over 14%.
“We are delighted to be organizing this charity cycle, it is very important that towns like Greystones have these vital pieces of equipment for use in the community,” commented Steven Cautley, owner of Cycleplus Greystones.
Twelve brave souls have already signed up for the 713 kilometre cycle which will start in Mizen Head on Thursday 3rd May 2012 and head north via Killarney, Lahinch, Galway, Connemara, Sligo, Bundoran and finally will end up in Malin Head on Monday 7th May.
