For those of you who competed in Gaelforce 6 in 2009 in aid of CRY we hope you are fully recovered and ready to take up the challenge again in 2010!
Physic yourself up for this amazing challenge. Gaelforce 6 is now in its fifth year and there are three events which you can choose to take part in – Gaelforce West, the largest one day adventure race of its kind in the world and the 24hr Cycle Challenge Irelandโs first 24hour mountain bike and road bike race and a new event, the Connemara Adventure Challenge.
Gaelforce West is the largest one day adventure race of its kind in the world. The 2010 event takes place on Saturday August 21st. It is a multi-sport adventure race involving cycling, running, hiking and kayaking. The course of approximately 65km stretches from the stunning Glassilaun beach to Westport. En route there are some significant obstacles to cross, including Killary Harbour and the famous holy mountain of Croagh Patrick.
The 24hr Cycle Challenge is taking place on June 19th and incorporates a 24hr Mountain Bike Challenge and a 24hr Road Bike Challenge. These challenges are achievable by all levels of fitness; if youโre not a fitness fanatic and donโt fancy riding for 24hr straight do the event with a group of friends.
The Connemara Adventure Challenge is due to take place on Saturday 8th May and the race will take the format of Gaelforce West with 3 disciplines; trail/mountain running (walking and jogging also accepted!), Kayaking and cycling. The Connemara Adventure Challenge is almost half the distances of Gaelforce West at approx 26km in total and it is open to racers of all levels.
