As the demand on the resources of C RY has increased there has been an evident need for some time of additional support for families who suffer a loss through sudden cardiac death.
To this end a programme has been developed with the assistance of Bereavement Counselling Services which is headquartered in Baldoyle, County Dublin.
A one day seminar was held in the Clarion Hotel, Custom House Dock, Dublin on Saturday the 4th of November 2006. The seminar which was well attended, heard an outline of the Training Programme from Ms. Monica Fitzgerald, Counsellor with the Bereavement Counselling Services. Dr. Deirdre Ward, Senior Registrar to Professor William McKenna at The Heart Hospital in London and recently appointed Director of the New Screening Unit in Tallaght Hospital made a presentation on the causes of sudden death in the young.
Following this seminar it is proposed that CRY will run a training programme for those who volunteer their service. It will commence in February 2007. The objective is to develop a core of volunteers throughout the country to support the work of C R Y for families affected by sudden cardiac death.
