Remembering Alan
Jennifer Campbell (nee Skehan) got in touch with CRY Ireland recently – her Dad Jimmy Skehan was turning 70 on June 4th – he’d told the family he didn’t want presents to mark the occasion but the family wanted to celebrate as a family in some way but Covid was making that impossible (Jennifer’s sister Hannah is in London & Katherine in the States). The sisters and the family decided on a challenge as a family they’d run 70km on June 4th and we were delighted to be their chosen Charity – Jennifer told us “CRY has a very special place in our hearts and we will be thinking of our dear brother Alan who died aged 27 from SADS as we complete this challenge”.
With the permission of the family we’re sharing their images & stories. Jennifer got in touch to tell us “So we are done !!! Our goal was 70km… we managed to do 140km with family and friends on June 4th. Hannah put the pressure on and kicked things off to a cracking start with a 22 km run in London. A first time ever for her. That certainly upped the anti on me so my challenge was 10km in 70 minutes which I actually managed to do. All the Campbells did 10km each (my husband Pat and our children Emma, Matthew and Alana
Anne and Jimmy set off with mums sisters Ray and Mo and mums walking buddies and completed 7 km each – that’s a fantastic 56km between them.
The Baillies (Katherine & her family in the States) took over and managed to add another 22 km. Taidhg was in a surgical boot so he decided he would do 70 pull ups with Aoibhe.
Jennifer told us – I couldn’t be prouder of everyone and can’t believe the generous support from everyone who donated the incredible sum of €5,164.00 online .
It was an emotional but uplifting and restorative for all of us and as we pounded the pavements we all shared that we felt Alan was there at our sides. So in a way we were all together in spirit and was very special for my two sisters who couldn’t get home but felt so part of the celebration.”
Thanks so much and HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!!!
Happy Birthday Jimmy from CRY Ireland – we’re proud to have the extended family on #teamCRY
