Shannon Kelly, a 25 year old medical student from Lucan was diagnosed last year with a cardiac condition. This year Shannon is raising funds for CRY Ireland. Shannon is an elite triathlete who was due to compete in France last year when her bike sponsor, Estrella Bikes insisted on her getting a pre participation cardiac screening. After receiving an ECG and Echo in the Beacon Clinic, they found a rare clot in her right atrium. She took a year out of college for treatment and was given the all clear in January.
Shannon said “I often thought about what would’ve happened if I didn’t have the opportunity to get screened privately. I then found CRY Ireland, who offer the same screening services for families affected and for those who may be at risk. My bike sponsor, Estrella and I are hoping to raise €2,000 for CRY Ireland to help them save young lives like mine and support those who have been affected.”
This year Shannon is getting a new sponsored bike with the bespoke paint detail with #HeartHealth, to create awareness of cardiac risk in the young and the importance of cardiac screenings.
Estrella Bikes are also giving away a bespoke carbon bike frame worth almost €2500. To be in a chance of winning, Shannon is asking people to donate to CRY Ireland on her fundraising page and post a picture on social media of what you imagine #HeartHealth to be, using the hashtags #HeartHealth #EstrellaBikes #CRYireland or tag CRY Ireland and Estrella bikes. Winner will be drawn on Sunday 31st January 2021 ???”
Lucia Ebbs, CEO of CRY said “We are delighted that Shannon and Estrella Bikes are hosting this fundraiser. With many of our fundraisers being postponed due to Covid-19, fundraisers like Shannon’s allow us to continue to provide free screening services and emotional support to families affected.”
