I had the privilege and honour of meeting the Men & Women of the 56th Inf Gp, UNDOF (United Nations Disengagement Observation Force) on a recent visit to Custome Barracks, Athlone Óglaigh na hÉireann / Irish Defence Forces.
Daryl Carney while on a tour of duty with the 56th in Syria chose to fundraise and support Cry in memory of his sister Debbie who died suddenly in January 2012.
With the support of Comdt. Jamie Malynn, Rev Fr. Dan McCarthy and Lt. Col Dermot Hannafin Daryl and his colleagues and friends held a number of events – a Fun Run in Syria, Table Quizzes, Race Night and culminating with the raffles of #Connacht & #Munster Jerseys last week in Custome Barracks.
The incredible sum of €2,064.97 was raised and donated by the 56th Inf Gp in memory of Debbie.
Pleasure to meet all of you & a special shout out to Daryl – great to have you on #teamCry.
