Just a few short of 100 cyclists completed the Carrickcruppen 4 CRY Cross-Border Cycle through two Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty-South Armagh and the Cooley Mountains in North Louth on Father’s Day – 17th June 2018.
Although the wind and the rain conspired relentlessly against the cyclists, all made it home safely and enjoyed the splendid hospitality of Carrickcruppen GFC, Camlough, South Armagh.
The event was organised by members of the club who were friends of the late Kevin Fegan (24), who passed away suddenly in 2010. Cyclists travelled from various parts of the North, as well as Dublin, Louth and Limerick.
CRY (Ireland) Chairman, Tommy Fegan, Kevin’s father, was on hand to wish the cyclists well as they set off on Father’s Day morning to tackle the challenging but spectacular route through the mountain ranges of the stunning border region. Tommy was delighted to welcome fellow CRY trustee member, Liam Herlihy and his wife, Marie along with fellow cyclists Pat Herlihy and John Forde, who left Monagea, Co. Limerick at 5 AM to make it to the starting line at 10 AM.
The Fegan family is indebted to the members of Carrickcruppen GFC, Camlough and the many volunteers who provided the vital backup and support to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all cyclists.
