A young southside man has spoken of the importance of supporting an Irish charity that helps families affected by SADS (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome).
Last week, GCS, the technology and financial services recruitment specialists based in Dublin, announced that they will be backing Cry Ireland (Cardiac Risk in the Young) for the second year in a row.
GCS named Cry Ireland as its annual Irish charity partner in 2015, after a staff vote, and following a successful 12 months of raising funds and awareness, both parties were delighted to extend the partnership for a further 12 months.
Head of Marketing, Daniel Evans said: “one of our consultants has witnessed at first hand the devastation caused by cardiac arrest in the young and we are all determined to help such a fantastic cause in any way we can.
“We didn’t’ hesitate to extend our relationship and are looking forward to working together to help as many people as possible over the course of the next year.”
“I got involved with CRY about four years ago when my cousin, Johnny, collapsed while playing a football match for his local team.” Sean recalled, “Johnny subsequently passed away with the cause of death being SADS. Roughly four months later, my cousin Ellen, Johnny’s daughter, was visiting her local GP as she wasn’t feeling well.
“Ellen was told to leave the GP’s office immediately and get to the hospital. She made it as far as the car park where she collapsed and passed away.”
CRY offers support to families who have lost someone to SADS as well as providing testing to those who would be in the vulnerable category.
Sean added: “I’ve been tested multiple times in the CRY Centre and have always been given positive results which is very reassuring especially if you’re quite active”.
All money raised by GSC Recruitment in their two years as Cry Ireland’s Charity partner will be used to fund the activities of the Centre for Cardiac Risk in Younger Persons (CRYP) in Tallaght Hospital which provides comprehensive cardiac evaluation of those who may be at risk from SCD either because of family history or worrying symptoms. The service provided at the CRYP Centre in Tallaght Hospital is available to anyone in the country (via GP Referral) and is free to the patient.
The centre currently receives no direct Government funding.
We are delighted to have the support of GCS Recruitment Specialists for another year. The existing partnership and the future fundraising efforts of the employees at GCS Recruitment means that we can continue to raise awareness of the condition known as Sudden Adult Death Syndrome and to provide free counselling and support. We are really looking forward to continue working together.
