Jersey auction to aid Cry
Betty Malone is relentless in her work for Cry, (Cardiac Risk in the Young), a charity that is close to her heart. In March 2010 Betty lost her 21 year old grandson Johnny to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome. Johnny died at Betty’s home in Shindella, Rathangan.
Since then Betty has thrown herself into raising funds for CRY which carries out health screening to try and identify those who may be at risk.
Betty’s latest fundraiser is an auction of a framed, autographed, Kildare jersey which she hopes will raise substantial funds. The jersey, which is one of the last Tegral sponsored jerseys is autographed by Johnny Doyle and the rest of the team and was framed by the prisoners in the Industrial Skills Workshop at Wheatfield Prison.
“Johnny’s the first name on the jersey. It could be his last year,” said Betty pointing out that this may make the jersey even more valuable.
Betty points out that the jersey would particularly suit display in a clubhouse or business premises.
The jersey was donated by Rita Cannon of Early’s Fashion Shop and Noeleen Kelly got it framed. Betty also wanted to say thanks to Alan, Kay and Phyllis Doyle who organised for the jersey to be signed.
