Louise Heaney, Orla Durkan CRY, Ciara Casserly and Jane Kerr at the presentation of the proceeds of the bake sale at the school.
A group of St Joseph’s Mercy, Navan, students recently ran a very successful bake sale fundraiser for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young). CRY is an Irish registered charity, which was founded in 2002. Funds raised are used by the charity to support families who have lost a relative to sudden cardiac death (SCD), to raise awareness of the conditions that cause SCD, and to fund the activities of the Centre for Cardiac Risk in Younger Persons (CRYP) in Tallaght Hospital.
This centre provides comprehensive cardiac evaluation of those who may be at risk from SCD either because of family history or worrying symptoms. The service is available to anyone in the country and is free to patient. The centre receives no direct Government funding. The bake sale they organised raised the magnificent amount of €500.00. Students from all year groups helped by bringing in delicious cakes and buns, and many others supported the cause by buying the fabulous produce.
The main organisers were Jane Kerr, Louise Heaney and Ciara Casserly. Alison Mooney also sold key rings for this very worthy cause. Orla Durkan the executive officer of CRY came to St Joseph’s for the presentation. She thanked the students and explained how the funds would be used.
