CRY CHARITY FUNDRAISER IN MEMORY OF DANIEL LAWLOR
The family of a young Tullow man who died from sudden cardiac death is to hold a fundraiser in his memory for the charity CRY.
The Lawlor family from Ballykilduff will hold a Vintage Car and Tractor Run on Sunday, October 21 to raise funds for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) in memory of Daniel Lawlor Jnr who died aged 28 years of sudden cardiac death in 2009.
Daniel’s parents, sister Cathy, brothers Tom and Matt, along with extended family and friends ran a Vintage Car and Tractor Run in 2010 in Daniel’s memory and raised €15,305 for CRY.
When Daniel died the family were screened at the CRYP Centre in Dublin as sudden cardiac death is hereditary and the charity also provide counseling and support following a bereavement.
“It should be a fun day out and we’re hoping for lots of support,” said Dan Lawlor senior.
“Last time we ran this event, over 150 tractors and cars participated which was fantastic and we had plenty of support selling sponsorship cards and raffle tickets.”
“We are encouraging anyone with a vintage car or tractor to come along and take part.”
All entrants on the day will be asked to register their vehicle and give a donation to take part.
There is a set route which takes one hour across country roads beginning at John Doyle’s at Tobinstown Cross at 12.30 on Sunday, October 21.
“We are very grateful for the support we have received from the Lawlor family over the years” We wish them all the bets with the event. It is people like the Lawlors who enable us to keep CRY going,” said Michael Greene, Chairman of CRY.
Funds raised are used by the Charity to support families who have lost a relative to sudden cardiac death (SCD), to raise awareness of the conditions that cause SCD, and to fund the activities of the Centre for Cardiac Risk in Younger Persons (CRYP) in Tallaght Hospital.
This Centre provides comprehensive cardiac evaluation of those who may be at risk from SCD either because of family history or worry symptoms. The service is available to anyone in the country and is free to patient.
The Centre receives no direct Government funding.
