A VINTAGE CAR AND TRACTOR RUN WILL HONOUR DANIEL’S MEMORY
By Clare Minnock
A VINTAGE car and tractor run in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) will be held in Tobinstown this weekend.
The Lawlor family from Ballykilduff, Tullow has orgnaised the second run in memory of their beloved brother and son Daniel Jnr., who died suddenly in 2009 at just 28 years of age.
Daniel’s parents and his siblings, Cathy, Tom and Matt, along with his extended family, hosted a memorial tractor run in 2010 to honour his memory and raise awareness of sudden cardiac death.
The condition, which may occur because of underlying heart muscle abnormality, electrical disorders or other structural problems, is inherited in 50% of cases – something that shocked the Lawlor family when Daniel passed away.
“It was terrible; and then you’re worried something might be wrong with you, too. We were all checked (at the CRYP Centre in Dublin) but, thank God, we were all okay,” Daniel’s brother Matt told The Nationalist.
This Sunday, vintage cars and tractors from across Carlow and further afield are invited to join the run, which leaves from John Doyle’s at Tobinstown Cross at 12.30pm.
“It’s great to be able to do this for Daniel and for CRY. They operate only on fundraising and we just want to raise awareness and funds for them. We had a huge turnout last time, so hopefully we’ll get a good crowd again,” added Matt.
“It should be a fun day out and we’re hoping for lots of support. Last time we ran this event, over 150 tractors and cars participated, which was fantastic, and we had plenty of support selling sponsorship cards and raffle tickets.”
