The weather was on their side when young and old turned out in force to support a very worthy charity.
Mary Keenan of Ballinacarraig opened her doors and her home to a great crowd on Sunday 29 July for a fundraising afternoon tea in aid of the CRY charity (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
“We got on fantastically,” Mary told The Nationalist. “We were so lucky with the weather …we did really well and everyone enjoyed themselves.”
Almost €3,000 was raised on the day, with some money still to come in. All the money raised will go towards the charity, which aims to raise awareness about sudden cardiac death and provide counselling and support to families affected.
Children enjoyed an obstacle course, face painting and more in the sunshine while parents and friends had plenty of chat and refreshments to keep them going.
“We’re very lucky with great friends and businesses who donated fantastic prizes for our two raffles. I really must thank everyone who had a hand, act or part in the day from the bottom of my heart. It’s great to have such good neighbours and friends and friends of friends,” laughed Mary, who added that Tom Geoghegan was also a great help in organizing the entire day.
She also thanked Sean O’Brien for “jumping at the chance” to lend his support and joked he was so obliging she “couldn’t get rid of him”.
“He’s really a lovely fella. He’s really obliging and was great to everyone,” she added.
