RTE sports anchor Jacqui Hurley has taken the first step to completing her tragic brother Sean’s wish list.
The champion motorbike racer, 25, died when his car crashed in torrential rain last November.
But just 48 hours earlier he sat down with his mother to write out a checklist of things he wanted to achieve in his life – including the Cork City Marathon. Jacqui will get her running shoes on and take to the streets of Cork to complete the race during the first weekend in June.
She said: “Since Sean died we’ve been trying to complete all of the things on his list for him.”
“We began with his working with concrete ambition and have since completed a duathlon and the Monstermac Triathlon last month. Next up is to run the Cork City Marathon.”
“As I am getting married over the June Bank Holiday weekend, I was hoping all our family and friends could run the marathon in Sean’s memory.
“The plan was to enter a team of 26 people and each would run a mile in this year’s marathon.
Since we decided to do this we have been inundated with people saying if we do the Cork Marathon they would join us. We’ve got 52 people signed up so far.”
Sean’s list of ambitions also included driving a digger, becoming a millionaire, running a pub, becoming a world superbike winner and owning a racetrack. And Jacqui is planning on achieving them all for the Cardiac Risk in the Young charity, which she is an ambassador for after her cousin Nicole died from the condition 10 years ago.
