On March the 6th you have the opportunity to take to the streets of Barcelona, soak in the beauty and ambience of the many emblematic sights of the city and partake in the amazing experience that is the Barcelona Marato!
This Marathon is unlike any other; the day before, the city hosts a ‘Pasta Party’ within the largest sports expo in Spain and Europe. Alongside the free pasta that is handed out to all the participants they also receive a free goodie bag. This generates a great fraternity between all the runners and marks the beginning of the celebrations for the ‘Marato de Barcelona’.
During the race there are refreshment stations every 5 kilometres that help maintain you for the stretch ahead. The race is organised with various age categories and seven pacemakers that will be designated to you after completing the online registration. If you register before the end of January you’ll only have to pay €60 but after that it goes up to €70, but applications need to be in by the 20th of February to secure a place.
If you find the run a little too much to take on at first, there is the free ‘Breakfast Run’, that is held on the 5th of March at 9.30am. 2,000 bibs will be given out for the course that covers the last 4,195 kilometres of the 1992 Olympic Games Marathon.
CRY are seeking volunteers to take part in the Barcelona Marathon and raise some vital funds for this great cause. If you are interested or would like more information please contact Lucia at [email protected] or call 01 452 5482. Alternatively you can visit www.barcelonamarato.es
