Take in New York in Record Time!
Always wanted to see New York? Fancy visiting Staten Island, Brooklyn, Queens, the Bronx and Manhattan all in one go? Well how about signing up for the New York City Marathon on behalf of CRY and take in all the sights in one go!
It’s only one of the largest marathons in the world and you can cover 42.195 km alongside 43,659 runners and all for charity. If you run like Gebre Gebrmarian, last year’s male winner, you could have gorged on a whole cultural feast in a mere 2hours and 8mins! This opportunity only comes up once a year and places are limited to 37,000 entrants who are chosen largely by a lottery system, so to be in it to win it, enter now.
Feeling a little daunted at the distance and time? No problem! Andrew Kaster offers a 15-week online training program courtesy of the New York City Marathon Organisers. In reality, time is not important, it’s the taking part. The thousands that do participate raise valuable funds for their chosen charity and CRY Ireland appeals to you, to choose them.
The National C.R.Y.P Centre in Tallaght Hospital was opened in 2008 and has remained the main focus for CRY Ireland during 2010 and remains so for 2011. Fundraising is crucial for the centre as they receive no funding from the Government and rely on private contributions to help cover the costs of the Centre. There is no charge made to the patient regardless of their financial or insurance basis and with 5,000 people suffering sudden cardiac deaths in Ireland each year, of which 60 to 80 are under the age of 35 years, the demand far out ways the resources.
If you can help raise any money to support CRY Ireland, helping save the thousands of lives that are affected my cardiovascular disease whilst personally achieving a life affirming feat. I can’t think of a better way to give and receive.
If you are taking part and would like to fundraise for CRY please contact Lucia Ebbs at [email protected] or call 01 452 5482 for a sponsorship pack.
