The Mater Foundation has announced that Ireland is the first country in the world to set up an annual reporting programme for Irish Sudden Cardiac Death (SCD) among the young.
The report has been produced over the last two years by two of the Mater Hospital’s Cardiac Specialist Registrars, Andy Roy and Ronan Margey.
It was done with the assistance of members of the Mater Pathology Department, The Screening committee for Prevention of Sudden Cardiac Death, Dr. Joe Galvin (Consultant Cardiologist) and Dr. Catherine McGorrian, (Cardiologist) in the Mater Foundation’s Family Heart Screening Clinic.
Dr. Galvin, Consultant Cardiologist at the Mater Hospital commented on the new reporting programme: “This report will offer more information about the frequency of SCD in Ireland and allow us compare year on year results more effectively.”
