Team participates in TriAthlone for C.R.Y. Ireland
A ten person team from Mount Temple, Co. Westmeath headed up by Colin Kelly took part in the ‘TriAthlone’ in Athlone earlier this month on Saturday July 12th in aid of Cardiac Risk in the Young (C.R.Y). The team participated to raise funds for CRY in memory of Padraig Hanevy a local farmer, and friend of the team who was lost tragically to sudden cardiac death in Dec 2006. Padraig was a fit and healthy farmer, was 41 and happily married with four young children.
The TriAthlone is a race for everyone; from beginners to intermediates and advanced. There are 3 parts of the race, the swim, the bike and the run. The TriAthletes will swim 750m in the Shannon then quickly jump onto the bike, cycle 20km and finally run for 5km.
Since Padraig’s sudden death his children and extended family have been screened by Dr Deirdre Ward Cardiologist at the Centre for Cardiovascular Risk in Younger Persons in Tallaght Hospital. By competing in this years triAthlone, the team want to raise awareness of the importance of screening family members after a sudden Cardiac death and also to raise funds for the screening centre in Tallaght Hospital.
CRY appreciate the support and the tribute paid by all who took part to the memory of Padraig Hanevy.
