Tommy Fegan, Chairman of CRY Ireland and Tomás O’Leary appeared on Ireland AM on Monday 30th July ahead of the Ardfield Summer Festival ‘A Night With Sporting Legends’ happening on Tuesday August 7th in aid of CRY.
During the interview, Tommy discussed his own family’s experiences with CRY. It is estimated that sixty to eighty young people will die of Sudden Cardiac Death every year. Tommy’s son Kevin is among those to have lost their lives from the condition. Kevin Feegan, a music technology lecturer, died in 2008 at the age of just 24. Tommy and his wife Ann found themselves at the CRYP (cardiovascular risk in younger persons) Centre in Tallaght Hospital:
“What we got from CRY was a very supportive environment of the staff in Tallaght.”
Tommy hopes to see a more proactive screening programme introduced into schools in partnership with voluntary and sports organisations.
