MEATH CHRONICLE
Saturday 13 October 2012
Members of the Gormanlough Cycling Club organized a charity cycle recently in memory of the late Ruth Maguire.
Navan secondary school student Ruth sadly passed away in November 2011 at the tender age of 14 from sudden cardiac death syndrome.
A daughter of Aidan and Liz Maguire, Antylstown, Navan, Ruth was an outgoing and talented musician who loved to play the piano and violin. She was also a member of the school orchestra at Loretto St Michael’s, Navan Musical Society, and Spotlight stage school having performed with them in the National Concert Hall.
Members of Gormanlough Cycling Club, who are close friends of the Maguire family, decided to undertake a charity cycle to raise funds for the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
Cyclists from a large number of clubs, from near and far, came out to help support the vent, as well as many members of the local community.
Gormanlough Cycling Club has acknowledged all those who turned up on the day and thanked everyone for the generous donations received.
The cycling club presented Orla Durkan from CRY with a cheque for €6,500, as well as presenting two other cheques to the St Vincent De Paul Society and the Paediatric Diabetes Fund at Drogheda Hospital in Ryan’s of Gormanlough.
The club and all its members expressed gratitude to Enda Meladay, publican at Ryan’s of Gormanlough, for hosting the fundraising events.
