The sheer numbers of runners and walkers that took place in last week’s Corrib Oil Galway 8K was staggering, with people of all ability taking part. Some were running to compete over the distance, while apart from fun runners, many were raising well deserved donations and causes.
The weather was heavy and close, with overcast skies for much of the day. Many runners could have wished for better air and conditions. Nonetheless many supporters lined the Grattan Road to cheer and help push the athletes on.
Participants included firemen from Galway Fire Service at Fr. Griffin Road. They worked as a crew carrying a rescue ladder over the entire course to raise money for CRY Ireland – Cardiac Risk in the Young. This charity works to promote awareness and encourage support and research into this condition.
Many families have unexpectedly lost loved ones, healthy and normal young people to the condition. The firemen have done the area proud once more.
