All Star Who Wants to be a Thousandaire Comes to Cork for One Night Only
RTE presenter Ryan Tubridy, will come to Rearden’s Bar on Washington Street, Cork at 7.30pm on Monday, 8th October to host Who Wants to be a Thousandaire in aid of CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) and Young Rider Development Fund.
RTE sports presenter Jacqui Hurley is organising the event as part of the Bucket List in memory of her brother Sean who died tragically in a motor accident last December. Sean and his mother sat down not long before he died to compile a bucket list of things he wanted to do before he died. Jacqui and her family have taken Sean’s Bucket List and run a number of charity fundraisers over the year in his memory. One of Sean’s wishes was to be a millionaire and this is where the idea for the event came from.
Jacqui said, “Everyone at RTE has been so supportive over the last year and I was delighted when Ryan volunteered to present Who wants to be a Thousandaire. Lots of my sporting colleagues wanted to get involved too so there will be a whole panel of stars lined up to take the contestant’s call when they phone a friend.”
Eight people will have a chance to win €1,000 each on the night which will include special guest appearances from Munster and Ireland rugby legend Ronan O’Gara, Olympic couple Rob and Marian Heffernan, Cork dual star Eoin Cadogan, 2fm’s Paddy McKenna & Ruth Scott, Cork Camogie player Anna Geary and plenty more. When a contestant phones a friend they will have a chance to choose from the special guests who will appear on screen to answer their call!
As well as the game show there will also be an auction on the night of some fantastic items including:
• 2 VIP tickets to Ireland v Argentina rugby international in November. Passes include entry to Presidents reception, match tickets & entry to post match function where there is a chance to meet the players.
• Training session for school or club rugby team with former Ireland Hooker and current coach of French top 14 side FCF Grenoble, Bernard Jackman.
• Signed photo of European Ryder Cup captain Jose Maria Olazabal.
• Signed Republic of Ireland jersey by all of the Euro 2012 squad.
• Signed Liverpool jersey by Steven Gerrard & Dirk Kuyt.
• Signed singlet by Rob & Marian Heffernan.
• Katie Taylor’s signed boxing gloves.
Entrance to the event is just €10 where you will be entered into a draw to be picked as a contestant.
CRY is an Irish registered charity, which was founded in 2002. Funds raised are used by the charity to support families who have lost a relative to sudden cardiac death (SCD), to raise awareness of the conditions that cause SCD, and to fund the activities of the Centre for Cardiac Risk in Younger Persons (CRYP) in Tallaght Hospital. This Centre provides comprehensive cardiac evaluation of those who may be at risk from SCD either because of family history or worrying symptoms. The service is available to anyone in the country and is free to patients. The Centre receives no direct Government funding.

Notes to the Editor:
Some facts about Sudden Cardiac Death:
• An estimated 60-80 people aged 1-35 years die of SCD every year in Ireland
• SCD may occur because of underlying heart muscle abnormality, electrical disorders, or other structural problems
• In approximately half the cases the cause may be inherited – close relatives may have a 1 in 2 chance of inheriting the same condition and may also be at risk
• Conditions that cause SCD cannot be cured, but if diagnosed risk of death can be significantly reduced
• Best treatment of those potentially at risk includes expert assessment, access to genetic testing and psychological support and counselling – the CRYP Centre is the only clinic in the country that provides a complete service, and it is free to patients regardless of where they live.
• Almost 1500 patients can be seen each year in the CRYP Centre.
• Patients are seen following receipt of a referral letter from their own GP or other Consultants.
