My name is Breda O’Keeffe. Twelve years ago, we lost our gorgeous 21-year son Gary to SADS.
Some three months after his passing a very kind lady contacted me, (she had lost her 16-year-old son 5 years previously). She helped me so much as she understood totally what I was experiencing.
Our loving families and friends were wonderful to us during this difficult time, (and still are) but they cannot understand the tremendous grief. Speaking to this wonderful lady helped me to realise that life will go on, a very different life, but we still must live, especially for our other children, and I suppose ultimately for ourselves.
It helps to have another person listen to your story, understand it completely, and to let you express your sorrow and fears without worrying about upsetting your family or friends.
This is why I am volunteering for CRY Ireland.
