SUMMARY:A Bite at the Big Apple
DESCRIPTION:Two of Ireland’s leading charities have teamed up to offer runners the chance to compete in the TCS New York City Marathon while at the same time raising money for their vital work. \nIreland’s premier peace building charity Co-operation Ireland has joined up with CRY Ireland\, a charity that supports families bereaved by Sudden Adult Death Syndrome\, to organise the challenge. \nThe marathon takes place on Sunday 4 November with a route taking in all five boroughs of New York City from Staten Island through Brooklyn\, Queens\, and The Bronx to finish in Manhattan. This is a five-night tour departing on Friday 2 November from Dublin or Shannon airport direct to New York\, returning on Wednesday 7 November\, to arrive back early the following morning. \nOnly 50\,000 places are offered to runners but we have guaranteed spots so you join us for the experience of a lifetime and feel what it’s like to be roared on by one million spectators who line the streets of New York. There is nothing quite like crossing the finish line in Central Park on New York City Marathon day. \nEach person is asked to raise a target sponsorship for Co-operation Ireland and CRY Ireland. Commit to this challenge and you will receive your place entirely free of charge. We will handle all administration and bookings of flights\, accommodation and guaranteed marathon entry through the tour operator\, Sports Travel International\, on your behalf. All you have to do is concentrate on training and fundraising and we will do the rest. Participants need to be resident on the island of Ireland and be at least 18 years old on marathon day.\nCo-operation Ireland CEO Peter Sheridan said: “Our vital work is dependent on donations and every penny we receive goes towards strengthening relationships across the island of Ireland”. \n“We are delighted to be teaming up with CRY Ireland to offer the chance to take part in what will be the experience of a lifetime.” \nTommy Fegan\, CRY Chairman and former Deputy CEO of Cooperation Ireland\, recalled his participation in the Big Apple marathon as part of their team in 1991\, 1992 and 1993; “The magic of this event never wears off\, even after 3 in a row. I am delighted that two charities\, to which I have been deeply committed\, are cooperating on this phenomenal challenge and opportunity. Both organizations are dedicated to changing lives for the better\, and this is an ideal way to support their efforts.” \nEmail lebbs@cry.ie to request full details including tour booking form and race entry form. \nFor further information on the work of CRY and Cooperation Ireland\, visit;\nwww.cry.ie\nhttp://www.cooperationireland.org \n
