Heroic Team Complete Vätternrundan 300km charity cycle for C.R.Y.

The Vätternrundan 300km cycle in June 2008 is probably one of the toughest sporting events the CRY team consisting of Eoin O’Connor and his 4 friends had ever taken part in.

With approx 15,500 participants lined up to start the 2008 Vätternrundan charity cycle, a couple of thousand dropped out even before the start with a further 760 dropping out during the event. However, Eoin and his teammates completed the 300km course in a cycle time of 11 hours 58 mins, with a couple of breaks thrown in for good measure.

Cycling in poor weather conditions, the 4 went through times during the course where their brain’s almost shut down, concentration would wane and the pedalling would become automatic. Fortunately for the fundraising four there were designated stops throughout the course where they could re-fill supplies of water, coffee & food and then back on the bikes for some more punishment. The support from the residents throughout was amazing, there must have been a few thousand supporters scattered around the course cheering the cyclist on at all times.

Speaking about the race “Even with the level of difficulty, the lack of sleep probably being the most difficult part, it really was an enjoyable trek. We had great scenery, great support and the sun rising over Lake Vättern was a nice touch”. Eoin O’Connor

The fab fundraising four raised approx €1100 for CRY who appreciate the effort and achievement of the four!
